4 Key Battles That Could Decide Brighton’s Premier League Clash With Chelsea on Sunday

Brighton and Hove Albion will welcome Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea to the Amex Stadium on Sunday. The hosts come into the match in 13th place in the league and will be keen to return to winning ways, having suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley in their last match. After resting the majority of their stars during Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Vidi, Chelsea will hope to be fully prepared to carry the momentum over from their impressive 2-0 victory over defending champions Manchester City. Here are four key battles which could decide the outcome of the match.Glenn Murray, like a fine wine, seems to get better with age. The 35-year-old has been prolific for Brighton in recent years and already has eight goals to his name this season. The Seagulls might not see a lot of the ball against Sarri’s possession-heavy Chelsea, meaning they may need Murray to make the most of potentially limited service. Fortunately for Brighton, that’s what Murray does best. David Luiz will already be aware of Murray and will need to remain alert throughout if he is to ensure the striker remains quiet. However, Luiz’s concentration has been doubted by many, and Murray will be keen to exploit any lapses. When Eden Hazard plays well, Chelsea tend to win games. However, when he struggles, the team often find themselves lacking creativity. His electric start to the season seems to have calmed down – he has not found the back of the net since early October – but that certainly does not mean he cannot make an impact. He has four assists from his last three games and consistently looks to be a threat to opposing defenders. On Sunday, he will likely line up against Bruno, who appears to have wrestled control of Brighton’s right-back spot from Martin Montoya. However, regardless of who features in the role for Brighton, they could be in for a tough afternoon against Hazard. If Hazard is given time and space to operate, it could prove to be fatal for Brighton. In recent weeks, we have seen teams attempt to suffocate Jorginho in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield. The Italian is the catalyst for the Blues’ attacking style, and has struggled significantly against teams who employ this tactic. Chris Hughton’s side will likely try and achieve a similar result, meaning the likes of Pascal Groß will be required to chase Jorginho all around the pitch. If the German can dispossess Jorginho, he has the creativity to make a real difference in attack. It is certainly easier said than done, but Brighton will need a huge effort from Groß if they are to earn anything from the match. Both N’Golo Kante and Yves Bissouma play similar roles in their respective sides. They are required to make an impact at both ends of the field, meaning one could find himself face-to-face with the other on more than one occasion on Sunday. Kante’s suitability for this position has been the subject of much debate, but there have been several examples of the World Cup winner’s ability to adapt this season. He already has two
